It’s been sooo lovely the past two mornings of SUNSHINE when I wake up! What a nice treat. It’s funny though because I feel like I’m running late. I’m getting pretty excited for daylight savings time when I can have that feeling at night too.
Soup today is Cream of Asparagus.
My apologies! I just realized I didn’t mention on my last post that I would be taking a blogging break! Tsk.
Today, Friday, March 5, we are back open our regular Winter Hours. Mon-Sat 7AM-3PM. Come in and keep me company. It is a BEAUTIFUL day in the county. The sun is shining and the snow is melting and it’s LIGHT out in the morning.
Annie is bringing delicious soup today. I’ll update later with the type.
I hope you’re not too chocolate hung over after all the sweets and such yesterday. If you are, a good strong cup of coffee oughtta do the trick. Just so happens I know a place you can get that.
Soup is Spicy Corn and Potato Chowder.
Another quick cookie tip. Before you begin, make sure your eggs are at room temperature. I’m telling you, it makes a difference.
I was listening to the radio this morning and during the weather segment, it said, “Well the storm is over and the sun should be out today!” Hmm, I looked out the windeow and it is definitely still snowing. Hard. Liar liar pants on fire!
The sidewalk is plowed though, and the roads are really not so bad. Come on in and warm up with some nice fresh Cranberry Coffee Cake or Banana Bread.
Dear Winter,
We’ve had a great four months together, but don’t really think this is working.
It’s not you, it’s me. No, actually, it IS you. You’re desperate and clingy. You also like to control where I can go and when I can go out. This is just not a fulfilling relationship. I know I can’t stay away and next year, I’ll be back. I can’t quit you, but now, I think I just need some space. Let’s try a six month break. Then, if we still think we can make it work, we can talk again.

Saturday morning is here again! So we are talking about cookies again! Today, there’s more to discuss about butter.
Last week, we talked about the importance of USING butter and of getting it to room temp before beginning your recipe. Today, I’m telling you about the importance of beating the butter. This is another very common short cut that people like to take. I’m telling you, IT MAKES a DIFFERENCE! Beat the butter and sugar together for at LEAST 3 minutes. Set a timer and walk away. This is where the sugar gets nice and coated with fat. You want that mixture to be pale and fluffy. This makes your cookies nice and soft and delicious. If you really want to see the difference, make two batches side by side. Do one as you would normally mix your butter and sugar and do the second with the new 3 minute method.

It is actually a beautifully sunny morning here in Door County. I’ve really started to notice it getting lighter earlier now. It seems like there will be light at the end of the tunnel. Another bit of news, JJs in Sister Bay is open again after their fire over the summer.
We’ve got a nice little dusting of snow again and it is really pretty. Get up here!
